As we approach this upcoming “Fall Season” this is a time of the year where many people plan to organize and clean out before the Holiday‘s approaches. Kick off your organizing project early by purchasing your boxes and containers. Many craft stores have an array of beautiful boxes and containers to choose from. Here are our top 4 tips to help you get started.
Making the Lists:
Getting it all done at once is easier said than done. Typically most people would make a lengthy “To Do List” that often never gets accomplished. Today there are many electronic organizers and trendy Phone Applications to help. Your phone can also be a great resource where you can set alarms to remind yourself to do things.
Staying Ahead of the Clutter
The old school way that your parents used was to put things away when you first got home. In a perfect world that sounds great, however in today’s world their are cell phones ringing, busy children schedules with most families working 2 jobs that makes this a bit unrealistic.
Unless the items need immediate attention, just make yourself an incoming basket or two. Keep your clutter contained by having cute baskets placed around your home like by the front door and or the kitchen. Get into the habit of emptying you incoming basket regularly. The evening hours once the kids have gone to bed is a typically a good time to work on this.
Managing Your Closet
First you need to ask yourself 4 questions:
- Do I need it
- Do I use it
- Do I love it
- Is it loving me back
Once you narrow down, periodically discarding the duplicates, now you will have less to store. Now that you have your Core Wardrobe you will want to organize what you have. Group your clothing in your closet by type, jacket skirts and dresses…etc. Then sort by color so you can easier see what you have and save yourself time.
